High quality 20-bore Bar-in-Wood
bar action sidelock hammer gun.
30" Damascus barrels,
concaved game rib, engraved with makers name and address: W. R. Leeson George
St., Ashford, Kent. Chambered for 2½" cartridges. Birmingham Proof
marks indicate proof testing 1875 to 1887.
Constructed on the Westley Richards action with Dolls head extension and
sliding lock. Note action constructed without use of Purdey double under
bolting system - relies purely on strength on upper bolting system. Both
hammer ears have broken/missing sections. Lock plates engraved W R Leeson.
14¼" well figured
straight hand English stock with original steel heel and toe butt plates.
Forend fitted with Harvey style lever mechanism.
Likely period of manufacture around 1879/1880 determined by rib address and
serial number.
