Back action hammer .500 Express rifle with
27-inch steel barrels. Flat file cut rib with spear front sight and
two folding leaves to 250 yards. Passive third bite with Doll's head
extension.
Barrels show 40-50% bluing with majority of
losses at the breech area. Bores show light to heavy frosting with a
few light pits. Black powder proofed. Makers name and address
engraved on barrels either side of rib, W R Leeson Ashford Kent &
29 Maddox St., London. W,.
Case-hardened action with Jones's rotary
under-lever. Back action with rebounding locks. Action and lock
plates engraved with fine foliate scroll details. Top of action has
matt finish.
Trigger-guard shows 50-60% bluing. Lock plates
engraved with maker's name W R Leeson.
Finely checkered pistol-grip stock of contrasting
slightly figured walnut with cheek-piece, sling eyes and vacant
silver oval. Checkered steel butt-plate. Finely checkered splinter
fore-end with Harvey Grip Catch fore-end release.
Likely date of manufacturer c. 1895/1900.
