Anson & Deeley hammerless non-ejector top-lever boxlock construction with
Webley Screw lock (Dolls head) third bite extension, action set with
removable disk set strikers and intercepting safety sears. Best border and
scroll engraving, action face engraved W R Leeson Ltd. Normal
splinter fore-end with well engraved Hackett Grip type release. Well figured
15½" stock with pistol grip. In its maker’s lightweight leather case with
accessories. Leeson style conical fences, partially etched. Flat etched rib
with iron sights.
Proof marks indicate gun
construction prior to proof law changes of 1904 but address and Limited
status indicates it was possibly finish around 1908 onwards. It
appears that construction would have taken place in the transition period
for black powder rifles to the new generation of nitro express rifles. The
rifle is regulated for a transition or “nitro-for-black” loading of the
express cartridges. Further information engraved on the barrels reads “450/400
for Reduced Charges Of Cordite, 40 Grs. Powder & 270 Gr. Lead Bullet With
Nickel Base”
